Ian Henderson is a ceramic artist based near South Queensferry who creates high quality, uniquely crafted objects.
"I make two distinct ranges of ceramics. The first type is one-off, richly patterned and brightly coloured porcelain bowls with oriental and contempo
rary design. The bowls are individually hand crafted on the potter's wheel and hand painted in sumptuous deep colours. They are intended as statement pieces of excellent craftsmanship and are suitable for any contemporary interior. Each bowl is a unique and individual item; I do not make production runs or work as a production potter.
Each piece is marked with my unique maker's mark and is finished to a high standard. They are intended to complement a range of interior decors in a stylish and contemporary manner.
My second type of work is a small range of contemporary domestic ware; pots for the kitchen and the table. They are a more subdued production – emphasising shape and form over decoration. They are intended to be used, held and handled everyday in the hope that they may bring some tactile and aesthetic pleasure to the many comforting processes in the kitchen. They tend to be muted in colour – creamy whites and soft blues – and they look to the East for their shape and their forms.
I am a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art's Ceramics Department and I have been making ceramics for over 20 years. I live and work in semi-rural Scotland and my work is frequently exhibited in commercial Art Galleries in the UK.
